Yoga & Body Image Workshops

189-exposure

Are you a yoga practitioner struggling to see yourself among media representations of a “yoga body?” Have you avoided yoga or movement because you believed it wasn’t meant for you? Are you curious about how and empowering, adaptive yoga practice could impact your sense of self and your relationship with your body?

In this workshop, we’ll have the chance to explore this relationship in a community environment, drawing on tenants of yoga philosophy, such as non-violence and impermanence, that can change the way we relate to our own bodies for the better, and providing the opportunity to embody these concepts through accessible breath, movement, and meditation practices.

Everyone is welcome. Those who have never practiced yoga before because they weren’t sure their body would be welcomed are especially encouraged to attend.

Yoga & Queer Identity Workshop

176-exposure.jpg

The intention of this workshop is to provide a safe space for queer self-inquiry and contemplation of the complete yoga practice, exploring the eight limbs through a queer lens. It is meant to be an LGBTQ+ only space, and all who self-identify as such are welcome. The ultimate aim is to leave participants with a solid foothold into yoga philosophy and practice that resonates and jives with their queer identity.

No prior yoga experience is required, just come with a curious mind and the desire to move your body in new ways!

Sunday, April 7th, 5:30 – 8 p.m. | Numi Yoga

I Want More: The Yoga of Desire, Pleasure & Agency

screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-4-14-44-pm

How does your current relationship with your body affect your experience of pleasure? When do you feel like you “have permission” to feel good? What do you find yourself wanting more of–at home, at work, in bed, at the dinner table? Do you actually know what you want?

Many of us, particularly those of us in marginalized bodies, have experienced the demonization of our desires. It’s hard to avoid internalizing these messages, but doing so often limits our sense of choice. How can we free up more options, including those options we’d ultimately find most pleasurable? What tools does yoga have to offer us in our quest for agency?

This workshop provides a forum to explore desire in a community setting, incorporating group discussion, creative expression through artful storytelling, and ample opportunities to connect to your body and desires through adaptive movement practices that are suitable for all bodies and abilities. No prior yoga experience is required.

June 15th/16th (Exact Date & Time TBD) | Divine Pine Gathering
Irish Hills, MI
This workshop is part of the Divine Pine Gathering–you must have event tickets to attend.
